Company Summary

The Protein Sciences group at Jounce therapeutics is looking for an individual experienced in protein production and protein characterization.  The successful candidate will play an important role in the discovery and development of novel biotherapeutics for immuno-oncology.  He/she will be will be responsible for the production of antibodies and proteins for use in R&D that will enable the development of groundbreaking therapies.  He/she will be expected to participate in experimental design, conduct experiments, optimize throughput, maintain detailed records, and generate standard operating procedures.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, start-up environment in the dynamic field of immuno-oncology.

Role / Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Transient transfection of mammalian cells
  • Purification of proteins (affinity, ion exchange, SEC, HIC, etc.)
  • Protein quality control – HPLC, SDS-PAGE, endotoxin assays
  • Determination of binding affinities by Octet and ELISA
  • Operation of liquid handling robots such as Hamilton Star and Tecan
  • Developing methods for automating cell culture transfection, protein purification and screening assays in high throughput fashion using liquid handling robots
  • Thorough documentation and cross-functional communication


  • B.S or M.S. in biochemistry or a related discipline with 1-3 years of biotech/pharma industry experience
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques required
  • Experience with transient mammalian (CHO and HEK) protein production processes required
  • Experience with liquid handling robots such as Hamilton Star and Tecan to employ them for protein production techniques such as transfections and protein purification required
  • Experience with automated protein purification techniques using GE’s AKTA systems and Unicorn software required
  • Experience with analyzing proteins (HPLC-SEC, endotoxin assays, SDS-PAGE, Western Blots) required
  • Experience with Forte Bio Octet, a plus
  • Ability to work with LIMS and biological registration systems as well as electronic lab notebook softwares, required
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong documentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), required
