The Business Development Director will drive Jounce’s business development activities, support the BD strategy, and alliance management functions.  In this newly created position you will play a key role in leading a range of business development transactional activities at Jounce.  This highly visible position reports to the Chief Business Officer.  If you thrive in a fast-paced, high science culture, this is an outstanding opportunity for you

Role / Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the CBO, leads a range of projects/activities that contribute to the execution of successful, high value BD transactions for Jounce
  • Drives and coordinates internal and external input to the various aspects of transactions
  • Works directly with BD counterparts at other companies to facilitate the partnering process, build relationships, and enhance Jounce’s reputation as a preferred partner
  • Working closely with the CBO, leads product/technology in-licensing activities including search/evaluation, due diligence, negotiation/execution
  • Identifies, conducts and/or coordinates business/financial analysis to support the transaction process 
  • With appropriate internal input/guidance, directly leads the negotiation of selected transactions and components of transactions
  • Prepares and gives presentations to management regarding the status, progress, and key issues with respect to transactions 
  • As a member of the BD team, contributes to overall BD strategy and specific deal strategy & structure
  • Organizes and project manages the end-end transaction process


  • Skilled and experienced at the fundamentals of pharmaceutical/biotech business development – networking, search and evaluation, partner discussions/negotiations, term sheets, agreements, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of drug discovery, development and commercialization processes
  • Cross-functional team leadership/project management
  • Able to think strategically and creatively about partnerships
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • 10+ years overall industry experience
  • BA/BS required. An advanced technical degree, PhD, MD, or MBA preferred.
